Lenton residents receive warning letter over student end-of-term parties

Students in Lenton have been sent letters warning them about throwing late night parties, noise and anti-social behaviour.

Letters were sent by Nottingham City Council to residents in the area, with a warning that the council has the powers to stop inconsiderate behaviour.

In May, it was reported that the Lenton Drives and Neighbours Residents' Association had warned people about student behaviour after the end of exams.

Flyers were sent out urging students to "know your limits" and to be mindful of others who may still be revising, residents who have to be up early for work and children in the area studying towards their GCSEs and A-levels.

Now the city council has also contacted Lenton residents over the issue.

The letter warns that the council's community protection service has the authority to tackle anti-social behaviour, in particular the disruption caused by large-scale house parties.

Anti-social behaviour is also reported to the city's universities and student unions.

The letter from head of uniform services in community protection, Pete Mitchell, added: "Anti-social behaviour of any type is unacceptable and can have a detrimental effect on residents' quality of life, impacting on sleep, work and school.

"Please be considerate of your neighbours and the community of which you are a part.

"If you are thinking of organising a large-scale house party in a residential area or engaging in any form of anti-social behaviour, I urge you to think again."

Civil injunctions, closure orders and breach of tenancy claims can all be sought by the authority to curb anti-social behaviour.

In September, students arriving in the city were warned against throwing loud parties which cause a nuisance to their neighbours.

In one incident in October 2017 a wall collapsed at the end of a student house party in Harlaxton Drive, Lenton.

Anyone who experiences repeated noise nuisance is asked to report the matter to police via 101 or the city council on 0115 9152020.
