‘Lens warrior’: Top papers mourn Danish Siddiqui’s death

The news of Reuters journalist Danish Siddiqui’s death was prominently carried in mainstream national newspapers on Saturday, along with some of his work.

It was the lead story in the Indian Express, Hindustan Times, Dainik Bhaskar, Navbharat Times, Dainik Jagran, and ran on frontpages of the Times of India and the Hindu as well.

Hindustan Times headlined its report, “Indian journalist killed in line of duty by Taliban”, and, in remembrance, featured five of his photographs on the second page. The Express headlined its report “Bearing witness until his end”.

Navbharat Times carried the report on its frontpage and also dedicated over half of the fifth page to the news of Danish’s death and his work.

Dainik Bhaskar described Danish as a “Lens warrior” and pointed out in its headline that he was the first Indian photojournalist to win the Pulitzer Prize.
