As international travel is back on the cards, many holidaymakers needed to brush up on travel rules.
Since leaving the EU, if you travel to a country in the Schengen Area, you must follow the requirements which means tourists need to keep an eye on the expiry and issue date of their passports.A number of tourists were denied boarding after not having enough months left on their passport to travel abroad.
Along with that, and a bulk of passport applications, the passport office issued a warning to anyone planning on travelling abroad to make sure they apply for a renewal in plenty of time before jetting off. This is after they saw a surge of applications in the wake of lockdown.

Here's the length of time you need left on your passport to go to Spain, Italy and France.
Your passport must be:
- Issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
- Valid for at least three months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)
You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. Some passports may have extra dates if they were issued before October 1 2018 but holidaymakers are reminded that these do not count as they go over issue date 10 years' limit.
