Lena Dunham has added her voice to the anti-gun protest that has seen images of firearms peeled off posters for the forthcoming spy thriller Jason Bourne.
Dunham responded on Instagram to a post by Tami Sagher, co-executive producer of Dunham’s HBO series Girls, suggesting “we do some peeling and get rid of the guns in the Jason Bourne subway ads”. Dunham reposted the photo of the defaced poster, adding: “Good idea ... Let’s go!”
Jason Bourne, featuring Matt Damon and Alicia Vikander and directed by Paul Greengrass, is the fifth in the series about the rogue former CIA operative, and is due for release in the US on 29 July. The poster protest follows Damon’s own comments on gun control, in which he lamented the US’s inability to “talk about [the issue] sensibly” while promoting the film in Australia.
