Leith Walk tram works: Communal bins to move and postboxes to be taken away during works

The upcoming Leith Walk tram works will result in changes to communal bin collections and the removal of postboxes.

Leith residents have been issued with letters before the project gets underway between London Road, at Gayfield Square, and Crown Place on 28 March.

Leith Walk will be reduced to one city-bound lane as a result, and there will be a number of changes to bus services.

However there are other ways residents will be affected too.

Those behind the tram project say that all Leith Walk post boxes will need to be removed for the duration of the works. People are urged to check the local postbox website to find their nearest one.

They add that all communal bins will be moved to the nearest side street to their existing location. The amount of uplifts will also increase to ensure the area doesn't overflow with rubbish, and these collections will take place later in the day.

Residents who have a garden waste permit, and live on streets just off Leith Walk should put out their brown bins as normal.

Edinburgh Live previously reported how there will be changes to bus services on the route while the works are taking place. Among the services affected are the 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 22, 25 and 49.

This part of the project is expected to be completed by the summer of next year.
