Leith Street closed – all you need to know as the busy route shuts down for three weeks

Leith Street has now been closed for around three weeks with a raft of diversions and traffic measures put in place.

The route is off limits to facilitate a crane lift as part of the massive St James' Quarter redevelopment which is currently ongoing.

No traffic will be able to pass between Princes Street and Calton Road until the closure is lifted on Friday 24 May.

Edinburgh Travel News also report that Calton Road will be closed at Leith Street but pedestrian access will be maintained. In addition, the Greenside car park will only be accessible from the north end of the street.

Lothian Buses say that services operating on Leith Street, including the nightbus, will be diverted using a number of routes.

Service 1 will be via South St David Street and York Place; services 4, 5, 19, 34 and 35 will be via Waterloo Place and Regent Road; services 7, 8, 14 and 49 will be via Princes Street, South St David Street and York Place; services 22 and 25 will be via Frederick Street, George Street and York Place eastbound, and York Place and South St David Street westbound.

For nightbuses services N7, N11, N16, N22, N26, N44, N25, N28, N34, N106, N113 and N124 will also be diverted.
