Leith Links packed with revellers as far as the eye can see on hottest day of the year

The heatwave combined the promise of cold beer brought hundreds of locals to Leith Links despite lockdown today.

One eyewitness described how the atmosphere was like a "music festival" as some revellers even enjoyed lockdown pints from a nearby bar in Leith.

It follows similar scenes over the weekend when locals flocked to the Meadows which saw 'huge groups of drunks' treating the place 'like a beer garden'

An eyewitness said: "A lot of people were practicing social distancing but there were some really big groups of younger people who looked like they'd been drinking for several hours already.

"Many people had sound systems and the overall feeling was a bit like a music festival. You wouldn't think we were only on phase two of lockdown easing"

Over the weekend videos emerged from the Meadows of hundreds of people partying and peeing.

Ian Rankin was among those complaining as punters descended on the Meadows, turning residential streets into public urinals.

"Hundreds of people on the Meadows. No public toilets open. The view from my building is basically non-stop micturation", the Rebus author blasted.
