Leith Farmers' Market: Huge farmers' market set to resume on the links after several years

A much missed community farmers' market is set to return to Leith Links from Sunday 9 August.

The market will provide locals with the opportunity to support local businesses and buy ethically sourced local produce.

Organisers are finalising the list of stalls, but said they had been inundated with requests.

The market will be coronavirus safe, and will take place outdoors further reducing the risk of transmission.

A spokesperson for Leith Community Crops in Pots said: 'We launched it a few years ago but had to close it down due to the dusty ground, we have been growing our grassy lawn since then to suppress the dust and planned to launch it early spring but Covid-19 hampered our plans.

"We set up a Covid cooking scheme instead but that has now ended and we are back to original plans."

Locals were excited by the return, positing on Facebook to say they planned to attend.

Leith Community Crops in Pots was set up to "support and encourage" locals to grow food, vegetables, and flowers for bees, in urban spaces.

The market will take place from 10am to 5pm on Sunday 9 August.

People interested in holding a stall can contact the group on evie@cropsinpots.org.
