Leith 'Covidiot' sign hits out at 'complete morons' who panic buy and ignore lockdown rules

A no-nonsense sign on display in a Leith shop window is spelling out exactly who the "Covidiots" are among us.

The straight-to-the-point message, which can be seen at the Inform Signs and Graphics store on Leith Walk, hits out at the "complete morons" who panic buy and ignore lockdown rules as the country battles to cope with the Covid-19 outbreak.

Set out as a dictionary definition, the sign reads: "Covidiot: [ Cov-idiot ] (noun).

"1. Complete moron who buys more a***wipes and sanitising products than they would need in a full year. Also panic buys more food than they can consume, therefore wasting fresh produce and denying people in need of their essentials.

"2. Someone who ignores health advice, because the rules don't apply to them. Going to the park, meeting up with friends to spread the virus to each household through contact of handles, products etc. Unable to help by simply staying at home and doing nothing."

Edinburgh Live reported earlier on Tuesday how walkers at Edinburgh beauty spots were threatened with fines over the weekend for breaching the government lockdown orders. While people are allowed to exercise once daily and walk their dogs, they are not allowed to drive to the location first.
