Leith bids farewell to massive ship that has been docked there for 143 days as it returns to sea

A huge ship which has been docked in Leith for 143 days has finally returned to sea today, with impressive pictures capturing the moment it left these parts.

Sailing under the flag of the United Kingdom, the 'Highland Prince' left Leith today for Aberdeen after more than 140 days in the port.

The coronavirus crisis has seen ships spend longer in ports as crews have been unable to go to sea or are forced to self isolate before doing so.

At 87 metres long and 19 metres wide, it's always impressive when these large ships sail smoothly out of the port and past other vessels.

The ship, built in 2009, left Leith and is currently docked in Aberdeen, according to VesselFinder.

It is owned by Gulf Offshore Ltd, which operates a specialised fleet of platform supply vessels that transport goods, tools and other essential items to offshore oil and gas platforms.

Leith is regularly home to some of the world's largest supply ships, including some in the past that have been almost skyscraper-sized.
