Michael Leitch, the captain of the Japanese national rugby team, who lives in Fuchu, Tokyo, has made a video urging Fuchu residents to stay home as a preventive measure to combat the spread of the coronavirus. The video can be seen on the city's official website.
In the 30-second message, Leitch, who plays for the Toshiba Brave Lupus of the Japan Rugby Top League, appears in Toshiba's black shirt, telling viewers in Japanese: "We're asked to refrain from [going outside] for a long time, but do not let your guard down and continue making an effort to stay home. When you get home after going outside, please don't forget to wash your hands and gargle."
Leitch concludes the message with, "Let's all work together to overcome this difficult situation."
As of Thursday, there were 66 people infected with the virus in Fuchu, the largest among municipalities in the Tama district of Tokyo. The local government asked Leitch to provide the city with a message.
"With his message, I hope residents will cooperate as a team to overcome the current situation," said a city official in charge.
