Japan national rugby team captain and Toshiba Brave Lupus star Michael Leitch and teammates teamed up to lift up a car and rescue a teammate who had passed out on the street before being run over by the vehicle, it has been learned.

Toshiba's Takuma Asahara, 31, also a national team player, was run over near Fuchu Station in Fuchu, Tokyo, at about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, according to Fuchu Police Station and Brave Lupus officials. Asahara suffered only minor injuries.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, started the engine and started to drive. He accidentally drove on top of Asahara, who was lying on the street.

Leitch, 29, was nearby and, with the help of a few Toshiba teammates, lifted the car off Asahara, who had been dining with the other players after a game. He was intoxicated and left the restaurant before the others, but apparently fell asleep on the street.

"We apologize for causing trouble," a Brave Lupus official said.
