Gyms at council leisure centres in Newry, Mourne and Down are to reopen soon.
This first step is part of a phased plan to relaunch services throughout the district.
Their first gyms to reopen include Newry Leisure Centre, Down Leisure Centre and Kilkeel Leisure Centre, say the council.
Visitors will be welcome from Monday, July 20.
Public access to the area's swimming pools will not be considered until late August.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council chairperson, Cllr Laura Devlin, says she is delighted leisure facilities are starting to reopen but that there will be changes in place to help keep people safe.
"We have been working hard to ensure that we open our leisure centres in the safest way possible, taking a step by step approach to ensure your safety," she added.
"We aim to accommodate as many people as possible, but we need to ensure that we also adhere to government guidelines. We are working hard to provide you with the best service we can in a safe and welcoming environment. We want you to again Be Active but also Be Safe."
It is expected the facilities will be opened on a restricted basis, with lower numbers of users allowed to enter.
However, they say services will be expanded to include a reduced class programme from August 7.
An enhanced cleaning regime will be in place and there will also be clear guidelines about cleanliness and reminders of personal responsibility throughout the facilities.
Further information will be provided on safety guidance before the relaunch as well as guidance on how to book a gym slot in advance.
