Leisure centre evacuated after chemical spillage which left one person in hospital

An overnight chemical spillage left one person in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Bramcote Leisure Centre at around 10pm on Monday night (September 2).

Highfields Fire Station and a specialist team from Stockhill Fire Station attended the incident.

East Midlands Ambulance hazardous area response team also attended, which included a number of doctors.

Around 30 people were evacuated from the leisure centre. Three were treated at the scene and one person was taken to hospital by ambulance for a further assessment.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Just after 10pm last night our team were called to a chemical spillage at Bramcote Leisure Centre along with Highfields Fire Station and a specialist team from Stockhill Fire Station.

"Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and gas tight suits entered the building, made the chemical safe, before handing over the building.

"The incident was closed at around 1am on Tuesday."
