The female was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at around 9.10am on Wednesday morning. Her injuries are said to be serious but not life-threatening.

The disturbance happened at a property on the town's Leishman Drive, and a 49-year-old man has now been arrested and charged.

Police say they are treating the incident as attempted murder, and the accused is set to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court today (Thursday, 10 December).

Officers are keen to thank members of the public who helped the injured woman, and helped police in their investigation.

Detective Inspector Chris Dow of Fife CID said: "We are treating this is a contained and isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.

"I would take this opportunity to thank the members of the public who came to woman's aid and assisted the police investigation."
