Leipzig 'join race' for Kristoffer Ajer as Celtic star's future takes fresh transfer twist

RB Leipzig have joined the race to sign Kristoffer Ajer, according to a report.

The Celtic defender has already discussed his intent to leave the club this summer and has a host of clubs interested.

Norwich and Bayer Leverkusen were believed to be leading the race to sign him but now Leipzig have joined the race.

The Red Bull backed outfit have plenty of money to spend after selling Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate to Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

And FussballTransfers say they could make a move for Ajer with the 23-year-old high up their list.

He’s alongside Wolfsburg youngster Maxence Lacroix and both players could be signed.

They believe a fee of around £10million could be enough to get the Norwegian to leave Celtic Park.

Ange Postecoglou won’t want to lose him ahead of him joining the club but the defender has already admitted it’s time to go.

During his time away with Norway, he said: "The promise was that I would be allowed to leave last summer, but then we agreed that I would stay at the club to try to win 10 In A Row.

"That was important for the club, but unfortunately we did not make it.

"Now we have come to the point that I will leave, and I really expect the club to keep its word.

"I hope it settles down as soon as possible. It will be in the best interests of all parties.

"I do not think this comes as a surprise to Celtic . They know what I want. In addition, I think it is important for them to sell me with a view to rebuilding the club. I think the club is grateful to be in a situation where they can get money for me."
