Leinster told they must quarantine for 10 days on return from Champions Cup semi-final in La Rochelle

The Leinster squad and management team will quarantine for 10 days after returning from La Rochelle after the Champions Cup semi-final on Sunday.

But, in line with the Government's high performance exemption to elite athletes, Leo Cullen's players will be allowed to train and to fulfil the Rainbow Cup clash against Connacht at the Sportsground on Saturday week.

The group is scheduled to return from France on Sunday night and is expected to spend five days together in a hotel before being allowed to quarantine at home for a further five days.

"Upon their return from France and in compliance with directives agreed with Sport Ireland, Leinster Rugby will enter a period of quarantine," read a statement from Leinster this afternoon.

"During this period Leinster Rugby have been granted a high performance sport exemption to train and play their Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup fixture scheduled for the 8th May."

The exemption was signed into law two weeks ago by Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.

Jack Chambers, the Minister of State for Sport, said that the governing body for each sportsperson or team would have to present a plan to Sport Ireland ahead of inbound travel.

Each plan would be examined on a case by case basis by the HSE.

Leinster had been seeking clarity on the issue earlier this week.

Speaking on the issue on Monday, Leinster hooker Rónan Kelleher said that the uncertainty hadn't effected the players ahead of the crucial clash.

"It hasn’t actually been discussed," said Kelleher.

"We’re just waiting for the powers-that-be to figure that one out. We’ve been part of a fairly strict testing schedule for the last nine months or so, or however long it has been.

"Whatever happens happens. Hopefully it will get sorted."
