Leinster are planning to fight the decision from Champions Cup bosses to award Montpellier a 28-0 win after the clash between the sides was called off - and want the game to be rescheduled.
Leo Cullen's side were due to face the French side in the south of France on Friday night, but Montpellier were awarded a 28-0 victory and five points by EPCR on Thursday following the fixture cancellation due to Covid fears.
The decision was made by EPCR after a meeting as the tournament organisers acted on the advice of their Match Risk Assessment Committee - made up of a medical advisory group and an independent specialist with experience in virology.
The committee had monitored the situation throughout the week after Leinster and Montpellier revealed they were dealing with positive Covid cases within their clubs.
Leinster were furious that their appeal to declare the clash as a draw fell on deaf ears and it is understood that they will now make a formal request to EPCR to have the match rescheduled.
It comes after games between French and British clubs were postponed on Friday as the result of new restrictions introduced in France, with those matches set to be refixed.
All seven round two games involving French and British clubs on Saturday and Sunday have been called off due to the measures imposed on travellers from the UK that make cross-border competition impossible.
“The board received briefings from the three professional leagues which included updated information from the respective governments,” read a statement from the tournament organisers.
“However, there were insufficient assurances that these matches would not be at risk.”
