Leinster focused on top seeding as they welcome Lyon to RDS

While Lyon are travelling to the RDS at lunchtime with a weakened side, Leinster's selection underlines Leo Cullen's intent to secure top seeding for the knock-out stages.

Already into the last eight, Cullen is eyeing up Aviva Stadium clashes for the quarter-finals and semi-finals as his side look to go one better than runners-up in the Champions Cup this term

It is expected that the province will add another comfortable victory to the list in Europe this term.

But, internally, competition is high with Jordan Larmour getting the nod over Rob Kearney at full-back.

"We want to try to stack the deck in our favour, and then there's also the benefits as you go deeper into the tournament," said Cullen.

"After the quarter-finals last year we were ranked third, if Racing had won at home in their quarter-final against Toulouse, we would obviously have had to travel to Paris.

"It's just trying to control everything that you can.

"We've got ourselves into this situation, it's just trying to push on and maximise it - to try and win with a bonus point, make sure we maximise every try and point in the game, see where that leaves us after this round. We'll have the same mindset the following week.

"There are a lot of guys who aren't in that 23 who are pretty p*****d off and would like to be involved.

"So guys know that when they're in the team that they can't afford to slip up because there's someone waiting there to take their spot."

James Ryan will be available next weekend, which is good news for new Ireland boss Andy Farrell ahead of the Six Nations.

The championship starts for Ireland with a home tie against Scotland on February 1 and there was some concern over Ryan's fitness for next month when he came with a calf injury early in the demolition of Connacht.

But the 23-year-old is expected to make the trip to Treviso to face Benetton.

As for Johnny Sexton, Cullen confirmed that the veteran out-half is looking good to be fit for the Six Nations after he sustained a knee injury in December.
