Leinster appoint former Munster back row Denis Leamy as contact skills coach

Leinster Rugby have announced the addition of former Ireland international Denis Leamy to the coaching staff as contact skills coach.

The former Munster flanker has been part of the Leinster set-up since 2019 as an elite player development officer but will now take up a hands-on position on the coaching staff.

39-year-old Leamy won 57 caps for Ireland and appeared 144 times for Munster before hanging up his boots due to injury at the age of 30 in 2012.

Leamy, a native of Cashel, Co Tipperary, played in both finals as Munster were crowned Heineken Cup champions in 2006 and 2008.

He was also part of the Ireland side that won the 2009 Grand Slam as well as two Triple Crowns, as well as appearing at the 2007 and 2011 World Cups.

Since retiring, Leamy has spent time coaching with Rockwell College, Garryowen RFC and his hometown club, Cashel RFC, before moving to Leinster in 2019.

“I am thrilled to be Leinster Rugby’s new contact skills coach," said Leamy.

“It is my hope to build on the great work that Hugh Hogan has done over the last four years or so. I would like to thank Leinster Rugby for this opportunity.

"It is an honour for me to be to be working with one of Europe’s premier clubs and I am very much looking forward to the challenge ahead in the coming seasons.”
