Leinster and Ireland wait on Sexton news as Blues welcome back a host of players

Leinster and Ireland are holding their breath as they await news of Johnny Sexton's hip injury that will be assessed later today.

Sexton suffered a hip flexor injury in last Saturday's 50-15 victory over Scarlets at the RDS Arena.

The Blues face Glasgow Warriors in Scotstoun on Friday night, the last in this block of URC games and just ahead of Ireland's November internationals.

Ireland boss Andy Farrell names his squad on Wednesday for the Test series and will hope for positive news on Sexton, who has impressed after a strong pre-season and start to the current campaign.

There was at least some chink of light for Farrell in the case of Robbie Henshaw, who hasn't played since starring for the Lions in the summer.

Henshaw has a foot injury and while he won't play on Friday night, he will return to partial training this week as he strives to get fit for November and the Tests against Japan, New Zealand and Argentina.

Apart from his concerns over Sexton, and that fact that James Ryan has to go through graduated return to play protocols after a head injury on Saturday, there was mostly positive news for Leinster supremo Leo Cullen to digest as a host of players return to training today.

Among their number was 23-year-old out-half Harry Byrne, who himself suffered a hip injury in the victory over Zebre the weekend before last, and he will be further assessed during the week as to his availability on Friday.

The same goes for Dave Kearney and Rory O'Loughlin, back after ankle and shoulder injuries respectively, and Jimmy O'Brien - a late withdrawal from the Scarlets game due it illness.

Caelan Doris (calf) and Ciarán Frawley (dead leg) came through the game against Scarlets with no issues and will train as normal. Jack Dunne (ankle) and Scott Penny (dead leg) have both returned to full training.
