Leinster adamant they will get over European disappointment in time for Munster clash

Leinster insist their Champions Cup heartbreak can be forgotten in time for Munster gate-crashing the RDS.

The Blues were full of regret that their bid to be the first team to win the big European crown was crushed by Saracens' power game in Newcastle.

As strong as Sarries were in claiming the title for the third time in the last four years, Leinster would have won and gone back to back in the competition had they not butchered chances.

“That’s cup rugby, it’s on the day, you’re never too sure where it’s going to go," said head coach Leo Cullen. "Where do we go next? We’re off to the RDS next Saturday.”

Rob Kearney believes Leinster had the game plan to beat Sarries, but not the execution. "It just comes down to not taking our chances," said the full-back, who may have played his last European game for the province, with his curren.

.

"It’s about pin-pointing those moments rather than a wider view that another Irish team couldn’t handle this English team. We had the beating of them."

As Tadhg Furlong insists, Leinster simply can't afford to dwell on their first ever European final loss.

"There's not much you can do now, that's professional rugby and we're back on the horse next week at the RDS against Munster, which is no small little fixture," said the prop.

Jack Conan says heartbreak will drive Leinster to reach European summit again

"It's nice for us to dust ourselves down and get back on the horse.

"It's knock-out rugby again, isn't it? It's finals rugby and it's something that we build towards and aim to do.

"And look, we didn't get over the line on Saturday and that's credit for Saracens but it's Munster next week, it's the rivalry, and we're playing them in the RDS, which doesn't happen too often.

"So it's a special occasion for players."

Kearney added: "It’s the perfect game next week to have. Munster will be frothing at the mouth waiting for us.

"This is the challenge of professional sport, we’ll have to suck it up and get back on the horse pretty quickly."

Cullen agrees. "Turning our attention to it isn't going to be easy," he said.

"Munster will have the advantage in many ways, they'll have that extra week of preparation under their belt already and I’m sure will be geared up.

"Even listening to some of the noise coming out of their camp, coaches moving on, listening to some of the players and the way they are talking about not wanting to finish playing for Munster until they win some silverware

"So you know how much it means to them".
