Leigh Griffiths 'wants' Dundee transfer as Celtic star eyes Dens Park return

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths reportedly wants a move to Dundee after James McPake launched a bid to bring him back to the club.

Former Scotland marksman Griffiths held hero status at Celtic Park but he's fallen firmly out of favour in recent years.

Ange Postecoglou gave him his chance in pre-season but he hasn't won over the new boss, who is yet to give him a minute of competitive action.

He's been on the bench just twice with his last appearance in a squad coming in the Premier Sports Cup win over Hearts.

He's currently fourth in the Parkhead striking pecking order and will only fall further down if Postecoglou lands a new hitman before the window closes.

The situation has caused him to consider his options and with neither Hibs or Aberdeen formalising their interest, Dundee have emerged as a contender.

It's being widely reported that Dee boss McPake, who played with Griffiths at Hibs, has made a bid to lure him away from Celtic on a season-long loan.

And it's understood Griffiths wants the move as he looks to play regular first-team football again.

Celtic likely won't stand in his way if he wants it with only his wages, believed to be more than £15,000 per week, liable to cause a problem.
