Leigh Griffiths set for Celtic chance as Ange Postecoglou welcomes him back to squad

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has suggested Leigh Griffiths will get the chance to prove himself after police cleared him of criminality.

The Celtic striker was sent home from the training camp in Wales after an investigation was launched into messages sent by him on social media.

But Postecoglou now plans to welcome him back into the Hoops squad and insists he will play his part now everything has settled down.

Griffiths hasn't kicked a ball during pre-season because of the incident and he returned later than others because of his contract situation.

He was handed a new one-year deal at Celtic Park but the allegations of inappropriate messages put his return on hold, and Postecoglou suggested he wasn't even thinking about him last week.

But now he could be involved against Midtjylland on Tuesday night after being named in the Champions League squad if he proves himself in training.

Postecoglou said: "He is ready to go. I think I said before the whole process with Leigh was pretty simple for me.

"Obviously with regard to the incident other people took control of that investigation and from what I understand everything has been sorted in terms of understanding what took place.

"From then he was made available and that's when he came back into my consciousness as a footballer.

"And I am not the kind who absolves himself of responsibility of things but with a limit of 24 hours every day and the amount if things I need to concentrate on, I decided that I will concentrate on the things I can control.

"And once Leigh came back into the squad and everything was settled in terms of the incident then he is back being a Celtic player, back as part of the squad and available for selection tomorrow."
