Leigh Griffiths responds to Celtic rumours with defiant social media update

Leigh Griffiths has hit back at speculation his Celtic career is nearing the end and insists there is more to come from him at Parkhead.

Social media has been in a flurry regarding the striker's future but Griffiths has shot down recent rumours with a statement of intent.

Unfounded claims suggested the 28-year-old was set for the exit door at Parkhead but Record Sport understands that isn't the case.

The Scotland international quoted a Celtic fan account on Twitter which listed his goals and medal haul during his time in Glasgow by saying "And counting".

The striker hasn't featured for the Hoops since leaving the first team fold back in December.

Griffiths previously rubbished claims he stepped away from the game due to gambling issues back in January.

He said: "Despite what has been written about me, rumoured or said to you from afar, I just want to settle 1 thing and make it clear once and for all.

"I am off work due to my mental health state. NOT GAMBLING, DRUGS, or any other issue that has been written about me since December.

"The stories, the tweets, the lies that come out people's mouth is laughable, but I suppose if they're talking about me, they are leaving someone else alone."

Interim boss Neil Lennon spoke recently about getting the forward back into the fold and Griffiths has been building his fitness up after taking time away from the game to deal with personal issues.

Lennon said last month: "He’s had targets. He’s working away in the background and doing his double sessions."

Odsonne Edouard has been leading the line in recent months with loan signing Oliver Burke also handed the chance to play through the middle.
