Leigh Griffiths on Celtic's 'deserved' title as he promises no SPFL let-up in relentless quest for 10

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths feels nine-in-a-row is fully deserved, but admits he's "gutted" not to be sharing it with the fans.

On Monday it was confirmed that the Premiership season is over, with Neil Lennon 's side taking the title.

With a 13 point lead over Rangers before the shutdown Griffiths feels that's fully warranted, but admits some of the shine has been taken off by not getting to celebrate with the supporters.

The trophy has instead been taken to players' homes, as they cannot gather as a squad.

The Scotland striker told Celtic's website : "We’re gutted not to be celebrating this incredible achievement with each other and the fans.

"But these are unusual times, and we have to do what’s safe for us all.

"Getting the trophy delivered is the next best thing, and getting our hands on it again is the best feeling in the world.

“We deserve it – the players, the manager, the coaches, the fans – and we can’t wait to hit the ground running next season. We'll do all we can to bring the title home again this time next year.”

The trophy also paid a visit to Callum McGregor, who made 50 appearances in all competitions in 2019-20.

He said: "It is absolutely brilliant to get my hands on this trophy again.

"Given the current situation, it’s really special having the title delivered to our doors, and it’s a great feeling and a huge honour to play my part in this incredible nine-in-a-row achievement.”
