Leigh Griffiths makes Celtic 'rise up' vow as axed striker points to Rocky Balboa inspiration

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has vowed to prove a point to "those who doubt" as he responded to the decision to drop him from the pre-season squad.

The 29-year-old has been told to remain at Lennoxtown while the rest of Neil Lennon 's squad head to France for a pre-season tournament, after he reported back overweight following the shutdown.

Celtic will face Nice, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days but Griffiths won't be part of that as he looks to regain full fitness.

On Sunday night the Celtic hero broke his silence, sharing a motivational quote from Sylvester Stallone's 'Rocky' franchise.

Griffiths wrote on Instagram: "The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows.

"It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.

"You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.

"How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done."

The Scotland international accompanied the message with some words of his own.

He added: "So many knockdowns.

"I'll rise up and keep challenging those who doubt."
