Leigh Griffiths makes Celtic promise as he details why Neil Lennon is the perfect mentor

Leigh Griffiths believes Neil Lennon is the perfect man to get him firing again for Celtic next season.

The Hoops striker hasn't played for the club since December as he took time away from the game to deal with personal issues but is primed for a return in pre-season.

But the Scotland international is ready to get back to his best and knows he has an ally in the Irishman.

Lennon has been open in the past about his own struggles in the past and Griffiths knows the Celtic manager will be on hand to offer any advice as gets set to return during pre-season.

Griffiths told Celtic TV: “He (Lennon) has been through the ringer before. If I need any advice or somebody to talk to he’ll be the man for sure.

“I’m coping with it. I’ve made a lot of sacrifices to get to where I am now, to get back into a better place. Hopefully it’s the way forward and I can keep moving.”

The 28-year-old is chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch and has told fans they can expect him to be fitter than ever when the players report back for duty.

Griffiths added: "It's been a tough couple of months, training myself every day.

"I'm on the home stretch now and it's not long to go before pre-season.

"I'm hoping to come back a lot fitter than I have to start previous campaigns, being here every day gives me that platform to get fitter.

"When we come back on June 17, I'll be raring to go.

"I've watched most of the games, If I can't attend games then I've been watching them on TV.

"I'm delighted for everyone, I know first hand how much hard work goes into it and we've landed another three trophies.

"Football is my life, it was frustrating being off but my big focus is to come back mentally and physically stronger."
