Leigh Griffiths leaves Celtic training camp as club investigate 'online comments' allegations

Celtic have sent striker Leigh Griffiths home from their training camp in Wales as they investigate claims he sent inappropriate messages to a 15-year-old girl on Instagram.

The Scotland international is accused of sending a string of private messages to a girl who plays for a Premiership side.

Screenshots allegedly from Griffiths' account went viral on Tuesday night appearing to show the 30-year-old reacting with an applause emoji to a picture of the user, who can't be identified for legal reasons, in her underwear.

Police Scotland are investigating, while a source at the girl’s club told the Record she had been given guidance on her social media activity and her parents had been spoken to over the incident.

She also told followers that Griffiths had been unaware of her age during the alleged exchange.

And the striker has now been sent home from Celtic 's training camp in Wales as the club investigates.

A spokesman said: "We have been made aware of online comments concerning Leigh Griffiths. The club will now look into this matter carefully.

“Leigh has left the club’s training camp as we do this.

“It would not be appropriate to make any further comment at this time.”
