Leigh Griffiths in Celtic fitness tease as Hoops striker looks to hand Neil Lennon firepower boost

It's been a while since Leigh Griffiths kicked a ball in anger for Celtic.

Between lockdown, returning to pre-season slightly overweight and then an injury picked up as he got himself fit, it's been more than six months since he last played a competitive game.

A cameo appearance against Hibs in pre-season aside, Griffiths hasn't played since netting a hat-trick against St Mirren at Celtic Park in March.

Now he's got fans excited that he could be set for a return to action after posting an image of him smiling during Friday's training session on social media.

During Neil Lennon's press conference, the Hoops boss never mentioned Griffiths when discussing players who might miss out with just Christopher Jullien and Mikey Johnson singled out.

That's a huge boost for Griffiths as he looks to get back into the team and scoring goals during a big season for the club.

He faces big competition with Odsonne Edouard the main man and Albian Ajeti and Patryk Klimala both grabbing goals recently.

Lennon has also defended Edouard's form after some criticism was aimed at him for his showings for Celtic in recent weeks.

He said: "Odsonne is fine. He is a 22-year-old player and sometimes we expect a lot of him because he’s a mercurial talent.

“I don’t think he’s playing badly, probably not at the level he was when we came to the lockdown.

“But I’m pretty confident that will come.”
