Leigh Griffiths hit with SFA charge as Dundee striker faces ban sweat for St Johnstone flare incident

Leigh Griffiths has been hit with an SFA charge over his flare kicking incident at Dens Park last week.

The Dundee striker has been issued with a Notice of Complaint by the Hampden beaks for ‘excessive misconduct’.

On-loan Celtic frontman Griffiths booted a smouldering canister into the St Johnstone fans who were taunting him during a Premier Sports Cup clash last week.

Griffiths featured in the defeat to Rangers in the league at the weekend but could now be facing a ban.

The controversial striker claimed he was just trying to clear the pitch as he issued an apology after the incident

He was charged by Police Scotland on Friday for “culpable and reckless conduct” before his appearance against Gers.

And now he will face an SFA disciplinary panel on October 14 where Griffiths will discover his fate.

James McPake will be desperate not to lose Griffiths after striker Alex Jakubiak was also crocked following a bust-up outside a nightclub.
