Leigh Griffiths given Celtic lifeline as Eddie Howe set to make final decision on striker's future

Leigh Griffiths will reportedly be given the opportunity to win a new Celtic deal with the incoming manager to make the final decision on the striker's future.

The 30-year-old has been tipped to leave Parkhead this summer with the talisman struggling for form and fitness.

He's been on the fringes of the first team with a Hibs reunion reportedly an option as well as speculation he could follow Scott Brown to Aberdeen in the summer.

Griffiths' contract runs out at the end of the season but Celtic have an option to extend it by 12 months.

And the Daily Mail claims that the decision will be down to the new manager, presumably Eddie Howe who is on the verge of being appointed.

The former Bournemouth boss is in advanced talks with the Hoops and is in the process of picking out his backroom staff.

Griffiths has been surplus to requirements this season for Celtic but the departures of other players in his position could play a big part in how his future unfolds.

Patryk Klimala and Cameron Harper have both left for New York Red Bulls, while several European clubs are chasing Odsonne Edouard, including Arsenal and Leicester City.

Albian Ajeti has also had an inconsistent debut season with Celtic and Griffiths' experience could be key in overseeing the inevitable rebuild that Howe will face when he arrives.
