Leigh Griffiths cut loose by Celtic over 'distraction' fears as striker could remain at Dundee until end of season

Leigh Griffiths was cut loose by Celtic because of fears his presence at Lennoxtown could be a "distraction", according to a report.

Our sister paper MailSport revealed this weekend the Parkhead striker's spell in Glasgow was effectively brought to an end after eight years.

Ange Postecoglou and other decision makers have opted to trigger an early release for the 31-year-old, who was handed a fresh one-year deal last summer as one of the Australian's first decisions.

Last week a clause was activated to cut him loose while the fate of his season-long loan at Dundee remained up in the air.

The Scottish Sun now claim he IS likely to remain at James McPake's side until the end of the campaign, albeit on "reduced terms".

And it's also believed the main reason for his early departure is that he could be an "unwanted distraction" if he were to return to Glasgow after off-field issues since he penned that fresh year-long extension.

Ange Postecoglou made it clear he would not be in his first team plans and it's understood he could remain at Dens Park to see out the season.
