Leigh Griffiths Celtic snub explained as Neil Lennon admits decisive Odsonne Edouard factor

Neil Lennon insists Leigh Griffiths failed to make the bench on Sunday because Odsonne Edouard didn’t start.

Eyebrows were raised before the Betfred Cup Final when the squad was announced and Griffiths was nowhere to be seen.

The 29-year-old has been racking up the minutes over the past few games in coming on as a substitute.

But he was posted missing at the weekend and now Lennon has attempted to clear up the confusion.

The manager said: “We’ll see how Leigh Griffiths comes on plus Vakoun Issouf Bayo’s back in training as well.

"Griff probably would’ve been in the squad on Sunday but our plans altered when Odsonne Edouard called off and said he couldn’t start the game – otherwise he would have started and Griff would’ve been on the bench.

“But when Odsonne didn’t feel comfortable started, Leigh missed out but he and Bayo will be involved in Cluj.”

Griffiths has made 12 appearances this season and just six in the Premiership, scoring three goals in all competitions.
