Leigh Griffiths Celtic quip as Hamilton coach Guillaume Beuzelin reacts to flashpoint

Hamilton coach Guillaume Beuzelin believes Leigh Griffiths deserved to see red card for his challenge on Sam Woods - but joked he didn't want to join Jamie Hamilton on the suspension list by criticising the officials.

The Celtic striker landed on the midfielder during the first half and picked up a yellow card for the incident as the visitors sealed a 4-1 win.

There were claims Griffiths should have received his marching orders for the coming together as Accies defender Hamilton would later see red for a professional foul on the Scotland international.

Beuzelin, who was standing in for Brian Rice as he served a touchline ban, says Griffiths shouldn't have been on the pitch but refused to blame Nick Walsh.

He said: "Watching live I thought it was a red card.

"We all thought that on the bench and we were 30 metres away.

"Maybe the angle the ref had meant he couldn’t see that.

"The fourth official or assistant maybe could have helped him.

"If it had been a red it would have been a massive turnaround.

"But I don’t want to comment on that. We have one banned, I don’t want to be!"

Neil Lennon didn't think the challenge warranted a sending off but the Celtic boss criticised Griff for losing his temper.

He said: "I haven’t seen it again, I’m not convinced he stands on him but he pushed the boy. That’s not a red card offence but he shouldn’t have done it. We’re very big on discipline here at the club and I don’t like to see things like that.

"It’s not a red card but he lost his temper. We need discipline at the minute. We can’t be doing with losing men on the pitch."
