Leigh Griffiths' Celtic future cast in further doubt as John Kennedy admits exit chance

John Kennedy has admitted Leigh Griffiths could leave Celtic on a free transfer this summer.

The Hoops striker has struggled for game time this season and has a year left on his deal, but Kennedy has revealed that can be ripped up in the summer to let him leave.

He's been linked with a move back to Hibs, as well as joining Scott Brown at Pittodrie next season, and Kennedy refused to confirm whether he would leave the club.

Griffiths has been at Celtic Park since 2014 but has been unable to get himself back into the side this season, with Odsonne Edouard the main striker and Neil Lennon and Kennedy going with the likes of Ryan Christie and Moi Elyounoussi as his partner instead.

And with a new manager set to come in, Griffiths time could be up at Celtic if both he and the club decide against taking up the final year of their deal.

Kennedy said: "The situation, it's like a lot of players' contracts, the last year can sometimes be an optional year.

"Some players might sign a three-year contract with an optional year at the end of it and that's where Leigh's at with his.

"There's an option to end it this year, but that's one of those decisions that will have to be made between Leigh and the club.

"It will remain private until it's decided but that's something we just have to think about moving forward."
