Leigh Griffiths' Celtic 'eternal problem' pinpointed as striker tipped for ace in the hole Scotland slot

Scottish football legend Miodrag Krivokapic claims Leigh Griffiths has 'eternal problems' with fitness but has fired a warning he can extinguish Serbia's Euro 2020 hopes.

Steve Clarke named the controversial striker in his squad for the winner-takes-all play-off in Belgrade on Thursday.

The Celtic hitman became embroiled in an ugly bust-up with former Celtic striker Chris Sutton this week after he criticised 30-year-old Griffiths' fitness issues.

And although Krivokapic - who has worked with the Celtic academies for a decade, after winning five caps for Yugoslavia in his playing career - admits the former Hibs ace struggles with his fitness, he insists he's still a major threat.

He said: "Griffiths has neither speed nor height, but he just has that something about him. He knows how to play.

"And most importantly of all, he has an incredible sense of where the goal is.

"His physical condition is an eternal problem and at the start of the season he had to train separately at Celtic because of his fitness issues.

"But he came back and is now back in the team and scored a nice goal against Aberdeen the other week.

"I am convinced Scotland will use him from the bench because their manager Steve Clarke will prefer Lyndon Dykes instead."

Former Red Star Belgrade star Krivokapic - who also played for Raith Rovers and Hamilton Accies during an 11-year playing spell in Scotland - reckons Serbia will edge it, in an interview with his homeland media.

He said: "Scotland has about 15 players who realistically have a chance of starting the game.

"They will stick with David Marshall in goals because there is no reason to change the keeper. They will certainly play three at the back. In midfield, Ryan Jack will do the dirty work and Callum McGregor and John McGinn play the football.

"Scotland will be defensive, but they can be very quick on the counter-attack.

"Personally, I don't think any of the players who missed their last game - Kieran Tierney, Ryan Christie or Stuart Armstrong - will start the game in Belgrade.

"Scotland are strongest in the middle of the park, but we need to give them respect for all areas of their team.

"But I have the same opinion in November that I had in October - Serbia has more quality in the team and should have enough to get to the Euros."
