Leigh Centurions have completed the signing of forward Tyrone McCarthy.
The Ireland international joins the Centurions on a one-year deal following his release from Salford Red Devils.
McCarthy, who played in Salford's 2019 Grand Final defeat, played 73 times for the Red Devils.
He spent one season with Leigh back in 2010, making 10 appearances on loan from Warrington Wolves.
In 2014 he joins Australian side Northern Pride and, after a return to the UK with Hull Kingston Rovers a year later, he returned to Australia with St George Illawarra for the 2016 season.
He played twice in the NRL for the Dragons before returning to Super League with Salford midway through 2017.
McCarthy's arrival will help fill the void left by Danny Addy, who moved the other way in the off-season to link up with Richard Marshall's side.
Head coach John Duffy, who played with McCarthy for Ireland in 2010 said: “As a young player coming through, Tyrone always stood out as someone who was likely to play a lot of games at the top level and so it proved.
“He’s got great leadership qualities and I will be looking for our players to match his high standards on and off the pitch. Tyrone is a durable, hard-working player who will fit straight into our group. He’s a top lad, a great professional and an excellent addition to our squad.”
He joins the likes of Ryan Brierley, Lewis Tierney and Blake Wallace to the club ahead of the new campaign.
