Leigh Centurions have signed the England half-back Rangi Chase on a two-year contract.
Chase, 29, had been released by Salford in October having served a suspension after allegedly failing to report for training on time and going on sick leave.
According to therfl.co.uk report at the time: “The club opened an investigation following his alleged disciplinary lapse and last week Chase attended a hearing, represented by the GMB union-backed Rugby League Players’ Association.
“A statement issued by Salford said: ‘Following a disciplinary procedure, the club has decided to terminate the contract of Rangi Chase.’”
The club had already said in September they were willing to let him go. “Back in June he asked for a transfer and we granted him that,” Salford’s owner Marwan Koukash said then.
“As a thank you for his service to the club we have told him we will not ask for a transfer fee, even though we paid a very sizeable fee just under two years ago.”
Chase moved from Castleford Tigers, where he was Man of Steel in 2011, to Salford in September 2013 for a fee in the region of £115,000 on a four-year deal.
He scored 15 tries in 42 games for Salford and said on joining the Championship club Leigh: “It’s not a gamble to step down a division. I’m looking forward to enjoying my footy again which I will do here.”
The head coach Paul Rowley said: “Rangi has undoubted class that I am sure will flourish within our team.”
