Leigh Centurions line up move for Tonga international halfback

Leigh Centurions are lining up a move for international halfback Ata Hingano.

Rugby League Live understands Hingano has been identified as a target for 2022 as part of the squad assembling task taking place at Leigh Sports Village.

He is a free agent following his release from Salford Red Devils and is now believed to be in advanced talks with the club. A deal is thought to be all but finalised.

Hingano, a key component in the Tonga side that reached the 2017 World Cup semi-final, arrived at Salford midway through the year but the Red Devils made the decision not to activate an extension in his contract.

But the 24-year-old is keen on a stay in the UK and a move to Leigh now appears all but certain.

If Leigh can help him recapture his best form, he could play a significant role in their quest to earn promotion next season. He made his debut as a teenager for New Zealand Warriors and earned a move to Canberra Raiders in 2018, but his career has stagnated since and ended up playing in the Queensland Cup for Mackay Cutters before securing a move to Super League with the Red Devils.
