Leigh-Anne Pinnock's 'pain' over 'not enough people caring' about experiences with racism

Leigh-Anne Pinnock opened up during an emotional interview on This Morning today, during which she explained the pain over feeling that "not enough people cared" about her struggle with racism.

The Little Mix singer, 28, broke down last week as she opened up about the racism she has experienced.

Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield today, she revealed that she previously spoke about the issue but didn't feel enough people cared at the time.

However she has now decided to speak out as the Black Lives Matter Movement continues to gain momentum.

"I spoke about my experiences briefly last year and I didn't feel like enough people cared, enough people listened," she said. "I felt like I needed to get rid of this pain that I was carrying around for years."

"It was weird because a lot of people were saying 'It's in your head, it's in your head, lots of people love you'," she continued, saying that she often had a sense of "feeling misplaced".

"I could only speak to my family and friends," she said. "This problem is massive and there needs to be a change."

Asked about how she felt about the Black Lives Matter movement, she said: "I feel overwhelmed. I think I speak for a lot of the black community but it's a sense of frustration because we've been living this for so long."

She added that she felt "hopeful" for the future and felt like many have since opened their eyes.

"They've educated themselves and I feel quite whole with it," Leigh-Anne said. "Finally people are starting to wake up to this reality we've been living with for so long."

The singer described attending the protests "one of the most beautiful experiences of my life" but insisted that it had to not only be a movement but change as well.

She also branded celebrities losing fans for speaking out on racism "disgusting".

"It's disgusting and it proves what we're saying," she said.

Jamelia joined the conversation and said that she experienced racism "every day" of her life.

"This is not new but yes it is inflamed because everyone is talking about it," she said. "Yes I am angry but I have been angry for a very long time."

She added: "I have experienced racism every day of my life."
