The curtain officially raises on the 2021/22 campaign today as Leicester City go head to head with Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.
Brendan Rodgers’ FA Cup winners will be determined to challenge for a top-four finish once again this term after being agonisingly pipped to Champions League qualification on the final day last season.
However, their build-up to the new campaign has been marred by a serious injury suffered by key defender Wesley Fofana, who suffered a broken leg following a horrendous challenge during a friendly against Villarreal earlier this week, and continued speculation over the future of James Maddison.
Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, meanwhile, have been boosted by the British record £100million capture of England playmaker Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
Grealish will start on the bench on Saturday evening, Pep Guardiola has confirmed, but Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden both remain sidelined.
