This afternoon's Scottish Premiership result
A good day for Dundee United, who’ve given themselves a glimmer of hope with their fifth win in eigh matches in all commpetitions. They remain anchored to the bottom of the table, but in that kind of form who knows what might happen? Aberdeen, meanwhile, failed to take advantage of Celtic’s draw against Hamilton last night.

Premier League result: Stoke City 2-1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa slumped to another defeat, with Marko Arnautovic getting both Stoke’s goals before Leandro Bacuna pulled one back for the Prmier League’s worst side.
Premier League result: Leicester City 1-0 Norwich City
Incredible scenes at the King Power Stadium, where Leicester’s players and supporters are raucously celebrating what could be their most important result of the season. They didn’t play particularly well and created little of note, but still managed to mug Norwich with a late goal. For the Canaries, it’s another soul-destroying body-blow - they’ve taken one point from the passt 21 available.
Championship goal-flash: Charlton 3-4 Reading (Rakels 90)
Oof! Reading strike late doors to lead by the odd goal of seven in the game of the Championship.
Premier League result: Southampton 1-2 Chelsea
Shane Long put the home side in front with a first-half strike, but goals from Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic ended Southampton’s run of six clean sheets.

Championship GOAL! Bolton 1-2 Burnley (Gray (85)
Burnley are heading for the top of the Championship table. Following their early scare, they now lead Bolton after Andre Gray put them ahead by the odd goal of three with his second of the afternoon. At Ewood Park, Blackburn have equalised against MK Dons, with Alex Revell making it 2-2. Finally, at the Valley - Yaya Sanogo has completed his hat-trick to make it Charlton 3-3 Reading.
Championship goal! Bolton 1-1 Burnley (Gray 74)
Apologies. Amid all the excitement I failed to notice that Burnley equalised against Bolton, with Andre Gray doing the honours for his team within five minutes of the opener. Championship latest: Blackburn 2-1 MK Dons, Bolton 1-1 Burnley, Cardiff City 2-0 Preston NE, Charlton Athletic 2-3 Reading, Fulham 0-2 Middlesbrough, Huddersfield 0-1 Ipswich Town, Notingham Forest 1-2 Bristol City, QPR 2-0 Birmingham City, Rotherham United 2-1 Brentford.
GOAL! Stoke City 2-1 Aston Villa (Bacuna 79)
Following his horror show against Liverpool, a performance that was so bad he was hauled into his manager’s office and asked to explain himself, Aston Villa utility man (a utility man who’s consistently useless in a wide variety of positions) Leandro Bacuna gives Aston Villa a chance of rescuing a point by pulling one back against Stoke City.
Updated
GOAL! Southampton 1-1 Chelsea (Fabregas 76)
Fraser Forster lets in his first goal in an eternity and he should have done better. He gets caught flat-footed as Cesc Fabregas scores with a cross that wafted over Willian and curls in at the far post.
Updated
Big goal in the Championship! Bolton 1-0 Burnley (Feeney 69)
Gary Madine sends in a cross and Liam Feeney scores with a tap in to put Championship strugglers ahead against the promotion candidates. Burnley would go top of the table with a win today, but won’t be doing so at this rate.
Championship: A ding-dong battle at the Valley
Reading lead Charlton 3-2 at the Valley, where Yann Kerorgant registered his first goals for Reading with strikes either side of Yaya Sanogo’s sixth-minute strike for the home side. Ola John put Reading 3-1 ahead just before half-time, but Sanogo has since bagged his second to put the Championship’s bottom side back in with a chance of rescuing a point or more.
Premier League match report: West Ham 1-0 Sunderland
Nick Ames was at the Boleyn Ground to watch West Ham triumph in a rather uninspiring contest.
Chance! Costa misses horribly at St Mary's
With his team trailing due to Shane Long’s opener for Southampton, Willian crosses for Diego Costa only for the striker to send a volley well wide when he should at least have tested Fraser Forster.

Championship result: Wolves 2-1 Derby County
A massive win for Wolves, whose fans have been feeling decidedly mutinous of late following seven consecutive matches without a win. George Saville opened and closed the scoring, his late winner in the 86th minutes rendering Chris Martin’s strike for Derby irrelevant. Following wins over Brentford and Blackburn, Derby are back to losing ways.

Premier League result: West Ham 1-0 Sunderland
Michail Antonio’s won the points for West Ham with a first-half strike into the bottom corner on a cold afternoon when Sam Allardyce received a very warm welcome back to his former club from the home fans. Sunderland squandered several chances to bag an equaliser, with Jermain Defoe and Jack Rodwell both missing fairly easy chances, while Andy Carroll sent a volley crashing off the cross-bar from close range after being teed up by a deft header across the face of goal by Mark Noble. The win sends West Ham fifth, two points clear of Manchester United. Sunderland remain in the relegation zone, second from bottom of the table, one point behind Newcastle.
