Leicester transfer plan that boosts Marina Granovskaia's hopes of completing key Chelsea deal

Chelsea's search for a new left-back in the summer transfer window has taken a fresh twist.

Despite having Marcos Alonso as well as Emerson Palmieri at his disposal, Blues head coach Frank Lampard is targeting a new left-sided player when the season finishes.

As revealed by football.london last month, Leicester City's Ben Chilwell and Porto's Alex Telles are both on the Blues' radar and neither would make the move to Stamford Bridge to play second fiddle.

"One of the areas that the Blues will be looking to buy in is the left-back position and Telles is certainly on the radar," our Chelsea correspondent Oliver Harbord said in a Q&A session.

"However, there is no deal yet, but remains a cheaper option than someone like Ben Chilwell."

But another left-back has emerged as a potential target for the west London outfit in recent days.

Reports in Germany claim Chelsea are interested in Atalanta's Robin Gosens.

The 25-year-old is comfortable on the left of a back four or in a wing-back role and has been impressive for the Serie A side in their march to the Champions League quarter-finals.

In addition, Premier League rivals Leicester City are one of several other clubs who are also reportedly interested in the German-born defender.

Interestingly, the Foxes' transfer plan could have a big impact on Chelsea and director Marina Granovskaia this summer.

As reported by Leicestershire Live, City's interest in Gosens could mean that they have targeted the full-back as a direct replacement for Chilwell - potentially paving the way for the England international to join the Blues.

It remains to be seen how much Leicester would demand for Chilwell. His value on transfermarkt is £36m, but given he's on a long-term contract at the King Power Stadium, Granovskaia may have to persuade Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to stump up a lot more cash to get this key deal over the line.
