Leicester refuse to give up on Juventus star transfer despite two rejected bids

Brendan Rodgers is refusing to give up on Juventus defender Merih Demiral - but has competition from Manchester City .

Everton are also interested in the 21-year-old Turkish centre-back, targeted by Leicester to form a centre-back pairing with his compatriot Caglar Soyuncu.

Both were key figures in the Foxes’ successful Euro2020 qualification campaign.

But Demirai has played just four times for Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus side this season with one appearance in the Italian Super Cup.

Leicester have already had bids of £24.5million and £34million rejected.

The emergence of a string of rival clubs to enter the bidding is likely to prompt the Midlands club to make a further bid capable of tempting the Italian giants.

Meanwhile Leicester remain intent on signing Cruz Azul midfielder Roberto Alvarado for a bargain £11million.

The 21-year-old was in the Mexico U-21 side that finished second in the 2018 Toulon Tournament.

He also has 18 caps for the Mexico senior team. Crystal Palace are also interested.

Rodgers confirmed on Thursday that James Maddison picked up an injury during the Carabao Cup semi-final draw with Aston Villa.

Asked if Maddison had an injury after the final whistle, Foxes boss Rodgers said: “He did. I haven’t seen anyone straight after the game yet, so I’ll find out when I go back.”

However, it is not expected to keep the England midfielder out of the Leicester side for this weekend's meeting with Southampton at the King Power Stadium.
