A 40-year-old man has been arrested after a heavily pregnant woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Leicester.
Police rushed to reports of an incident involving a vehicle, thought to be a white van, and a cyclist in Aylestone Road at around 9.30pm on Monday.
The cyclist, who is heavily pregnant and in her forties, remains in hospital after the crash with serious injuries.
Leicestershire Police said the driver failed to stop at the scene, near the junction with Park Hill Drive.
The spokesman said the suspect, from Leicester, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol.
He remains in custody and inquiries are continuing, the force added.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins said: “We are continuing to provide support to the woman injured and her family as the investigation continues.
“We have made this arrest today in connection with the collision and our inquiries remain ongoing as we continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident yesterday evening.
“We do urge anyone who has any information in relation to the incident, and who has not yet spoken with us, to make contact.
“Anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage from the scene of the collision at the time of the incident or prior to the collision should also get in touch.
“I would like to thank everyone who has shared our appeals and provided information to us so far.”
