Leicester legend makes Brendan Rodgers revelation amid Manchester United and Man City links

Leicester City hero Andy King has thrown cold water over rumours that Brendan Rodgers' links with Manchester City and Manchester United are affecting his influence in the Foxes changing room.

In fact, King says his former manager has addressed his commitment to his squad amid the speculation.

The 2015/16 Premier League champions have had a subpar top-flight campaign this season.

They are languishing in ninth, seven points off the top four, though produced their best performance of the season last time out with a 4-0 thumping of Newcastle having a few days prior crashed out of the Europa League with a 3-2 loss to Napoli.

Rodgers has been linked with the permanent United job, available in the summer, while also reportedly lined up by City as Pep Guardiola’s successor at the Etihad when the Catalan inevitably departs.

But King, who helped Leicester navigate from League One to the Premier League title during his 376 club appearances, says the speculation hasn’t unsteadied Rodgers' authority at the King Power Stadium.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, he said: “I wouldn't say there’s any uncertainty with the manager.

"I know for a fact that the manager has pulled the players before and re-established his commitment to the team, to the club.

“He can’t control what the media are speculating, I know that he’s pulled the players at the start and said ‘look, my future is here, I want to work with this group of players’ and things like that.”

Speaking directly about the rumours, the Bristol City midfielder added: “From an outside perspective there’s a lot of noise and maybe that has put more pressure on in terms of that it’s heightened the fact that when it hasn’t gone well.

“Where normally it’d have been ‘Leicester have lost a game’ it’s now ‘Leicester have lost a game, is that because Brendan Rodgers might be going to Manchester United or Man City ’.

“There’s been more media speculation with it but I don’t think in terms of the four walls of the Leicester training ground I don’t think that’s had a knock-on effect of the results which haven’t been as good as maybe in previous years.”
