Leicester issue apology to Chelsea over dressing room incident following FA Cup final

Leicester City have offered an apology to Chelsea after a video emerged of Daniel Amartey throwing their pennant on the floor following their FA Cup win.

A video emerged of the versatile Ghanaian midfielder in the victorious dressing room after Saturday’s match, in which he appeared to disrespect his opponents.

Amartey is shown by the footage picking up the pennant - which are exchanged between the club captains prior to kick-off - and holding it up to the camera, before flinging it backwards over his shoulder with it landing on the floor.

It has been reported that the 26-year-old has been spoken to by the Foxes, who have subsequently issued an apology to Chelsea.

The Blues have accepted the apology and relations between the two clubs remain very strong despite the incident.

Leicester lifted the FA Cup trophy for the first time in their history on Saturday thanks to a second half long-range stunning strike from Youri Tielemans.

Emotions were understandably running high in the closing moments, particularly as Chelsea were denied a late equaliser after a VAR decision determined that former Foxes player Ben Chilwell was offside in the build-up.

Chelsea will have their chance to extract an element of revenge on Tuesday as they welcome Leicester to Stamford Bridge in a crucial Premier League match in the race for the top four.

Thomas Tuchel’s side trail the third-placed Foxes by two points going into the clash with both sides now under serious pressure for their top four places following a resurgence in form from Liverpool.

The Reds are now just one point behind Chelsea in the standings going into a nail-biting final two rounds of matches, with Jurgen Klopp’s side travelling to Burnley this midweek.

The final day sees Leicester host Tottenham, Chelsea travel to Aston Villa and Liverpool take on Crystal Palace at Anfield.
