Leicester happy to fly under the radar in Premier League title race, says Brendan Rodgers

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers says he is happy for his side to fly under the radar as they bid to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The Foxes lie second in the table, eight points behind the Reds, following their 4-1 triumph over Aston Villa on Sunday, which was a club-record eighth successive top flight win.

With Manchester City and Chelsea both losing on Saturday, Rodgers' men appear the primary threat to Liverpool's hopes of ending their long wait for a Premier League title.

Liverpool's Club World Cup commitments later this month mean that Leicester could close the gap even if the leaders' remarkable winning run continues, and Rodgers is content for his side to quietly go about trying to bridge the gap.

"I don't think anyone expects us to be near the top. After Manchester United won at Manchester City on Saturday, the caption came up about how far City are away from Liverpool," he said.

"We respect that, we get on with our work and keep developing as a team.

"It's just natural, Man City and Liverpool are both incredible teams. We know we are looking to improve and close the gap. We have finished ninth in the last two seasons but today we looked like a top team.

"It was a real historic day, to surpass the club record of straight wins in the top flight was fantastic for us."
