Two people have been found dead at a Leicester home following reports of a gas leak, while nearby properties are being evacuated.

Police and firefighters rushed to the home on Melbourne Road, Highfields, around 1.30 today, following reports of a leak.

Two people were found inside the house by firefighters.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

While the deaths were not currently believed to be suspicious, enquiries by the Leicestershire Police are ongoing.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told Leicestershire Live about how they saw two bodies being carried out of the house on stretchers.

"I believe a man and a woman live there,” they said.
